Blog Post #4:

...analyze three examples of how technology has changed society's expectations of mass media and culture, they said...

Social media, society, celebrity news are all things that I keep up with on a daily basis. Actually: entirely too much! I should work for ENews. Hire me now. I'm going to make the rest of this post in pink because it's 11:22 pm CST and it will awaken your life, which is my desire on earth. (not really but I had you believing)

Here's my discussion board from class:

This week's discussion question is how and why does consumption of music and movies change due to technological advancements? How have these changes affected your own personal consumptions of media? Consider music downloads, pirating movies, iTunes, copyright infringement, and Netflix.  I've grown up with music having older brothers and sisters. Vinyl records: 45s and 78s, cassette tapes, MP3s, CDs for music to VHS and Beta tapes to DVDs. It's been a huge change from the 70s, 80s, 90s to now. I think the biggest advancements were in those decades versus lately- if you're lucky enough to have seen those changes in music and movies/film, or at least studied about it. I think consumption of movies and music has changed the most because, now, it's more readily available. Back in those decades, we didn't have our phones with apps, such as YouTube and being able to Google anything. One had to go to a music store/record shop and purchase a new album or to the theater and, oh there's this- Blockbuster Video! So many of those are bygones in the industry since we can access and/or buy them via the internet with our phone or laptop. It's quick, fast, and most of the time- free to listen- unless there's copyright infringments on it. All of this has definitely affected my own consumption of music and movies. Pirating and copyright infringement is a serious thing so don't do it. I go to the theater to see many new movies lately but I hardly ever buy any of this anymore. I think I own 2-3 movies and very few CDs. I want a vinyl collection just for fun. Netflix is a purchase that makes it easy to watch some favorites but, currently, I don't own a tv since I rarely watch it anyhow (considering one now)... I have iTunes on my IPhone and I've purchased a few songs on it.
