Blog Post #1:

Example 1 of how technology has changed the work of communicators and influenced the training they need:

New class, new blog. I haven't blogged since umm 2011 in London so this is not nearly as exciting as that (explains my user name: londonblogger2011) but if you're here ever (besides my current professor in this masters degree program- then hola to you!!! Honestly, I forgot that I used Google to do this so here goes. This first blog entry is about an example of how technology has changed the work of communicators and influenced the training they need in their jobs.  I'll share some of my thoughts from a discussion post that I wrote.
Before Facebook- even before My Space (never had that one), communication for the media was very different. Media consumption was done by television and radio and umm- dial up internet... I'm having to take a walk through time to think about this right now. I don't own a television for several years because I literally never have time to sit and watch it and if I do- I'm glued to it. The same for media consumption before Facebook was true! Think about 9/11. There was no social media. I watched the towers get blown up on live tv. Now- it's up to the second with people videoing on their phone and media personnel have to be in tune with those changes to deliver the news much like I used to watch the 5:00 and 10:00 news. This makes me feel like I'm 100 years old. People still listened to the radio for news as well. I find myself flipping through that now for the most part unless it's traffic updates.

Social media has changed the work of communicators and influenced the training they need in that now it's live. These people need social media skills to make it in their jobs. I'll do a second post as an example so follow along!
